Perhaps since I have already been dead twice I should write more Stephen King type stories but I prefer to write 'Street Lit', real life events, ordinary, everyday people in less than ordinary circumstances. I died in while undergoing 'experimental' robotic heart surgery - of course they only included the adjective 'experimental' after I came out of an 8 day induced coma and stayed awake for three days straight.
Plenty of time to assess one's life and direction. They killed me again a few days later, had to get my heart rate down to something manageable and after that I knew going back to the wasn't worth it. So I packed in the job with 'The Man' and ever since then I feed my family; me, my wife and five daughters, through my writing. I have been writing for decades; first by hand, then typewriter and now word processor. Everything from self defence manuals to self-help guides for expats living in third world countries. Back then, though, there was always the 'day job', the 'real job'. I have been a soldier, a private investigator, bodyguard, salesman, dishwasher, paperboy All the time it was merely preparation for my life's purpose: I have gathered so much experience and so many stories simply by living my life and paying attention to the details.
My fiction writing isn't what pays the bills, though.

That would be the ghostwriting I do but of course, client confidentiality means I can never point to the books I write for others and say 'I wrote that'. My short stories and novels all explore the theme of choices and consequences, one way or another, some more so than others. We all make choices, every day and these have consequences, often unforeseen, unexpected or even unwarranted.
My fiction is written for me and the many readers who share my taste because there are many of you out there. One thing I have realised is that we are all far more 'average' than we might wish to accept. No writer can ever attract every reader but if you have read this far, we may share the same taste in writing and I invite you to check out some of my work, or better yet, all of it. I tend to be my own harshest critic and drive myself pretty hard; something I need to ease up on. Yesterday I enjoyed a coffee with my parents and a quick trip to the locksmith to get a second key cut for my Land Rover Defender. What I Wrote In Since my last post in October of , a lot has happened.

First of all I was offered a job in sales and marketing which I took up on the 20th of that month. I was working for a small, family run security company; lovely people and the potential to grow with the business however, fate took a hand and I find myself back doing what I know and love. In a nutshell the company had a lot of work come in over Christmas which they did and paid their staff but the clients have yet to pay. As a freelance writer I only make any money when I am writing for other people… and they pay me. Cashflow is always a balancing act in any business and none more so in the writing game.

Getting paid is the key, of course. I know very good writers who have full order books and work hours a day but forget to put enough focus on getting paid for all their hard work. At the moment I. I co-wrote this with Paul England; he supplied the true events and I wrote the narrative.
It is a fictionalised account of events that affected his family in recent years. Aaron, by the way, was discovered by me and I published his very funny first novel to international acclaim some might dispute the details of this allegation. If I had the five thousand quid to enter it into the Man Booker Prize I would, but sadly funding issues and all that.

I was considering opening a bar restaurant in manila, I did not know anyone who has done it. After reading this I feel as if I have gone through it and have changed my mind and am looking at real estate in Philippines and back home. This is the third book from Perry I have read and like the others it is loaded with practical information. His writing style is straight forward and easy to read. The only flaw I found and it's a minor one is that it could use a proof reader as there are many typos.
It would likely take many years and no small sum of money to learn what can easily be read in a couple of hours in this book. Going through the process of marrying a Filipina myself and seriously considering a business venture in the Philippines I feel this book as with his others was money well spent! Perry writes from the best possible vantage point - personal experience. Having lived overseas myself before the points Perry stressed in this book rang true every time. What keeps going through my mind after reading the book were the points - you cannot be over researched, start small and build a solid foundation, be respectful of the culture you are a guest in, and don't move into another culture as if you own the place, that just upsets the locals, the very people you need as customers and whom you wish to live alongside.
Thanks Perry, I enjoy an honest writer's works. This is a great book for anyone with a interest in INvesting in the Philippines. If you read this, finish it and still want to invest, then you are ready. One person found this helpful.
